14 Aug Let Me Share My Heart With You … Are You Willing?

Wasup everyone!

Before I tell you about a campaign I just started, let me give a little back story.

It all started with questioning.

For several years I was a traveling Christian speaker, teacher, pastor, evangelist, and missionary. I went to Bible school and even received two degrees in theology (B.A. & M.A). My goal at the time was to travel the world and defend the Christian faith as an apologist.

Now, I’ve always been the type to ask questions, but during those years as a missionary to the Philippines, I finally found the courage to sincerely question some of my fundamental beliefs as an evangelical Christian. And to be honest, it wasn’t easy.

But with all the nagging thoughts, genuine questions, and eye-opening experiences I was having, I just knew—in order to be true to myself—it was time for me to finally let some of my “beliefs” go.

Thankfully, because of my Youtube Channel (which has over 1 million views and counting), I’ve been able to share my spiritual journey with the rest of the online world. And I’ve produced more than 180+ FREE VIDEOS which have helped countless people recover from legalism and fear-based religion.

Yet, there was a price to pay … literally. Not only did I lose many of my close relationships within the religious community, but I lost a lot of financial support and opportunities as well.

But the lack of support and constant pushback from critics didn’t stop me from sharing my ideas. I eventually self-published two books called So You Thought You Knew and The Secret To Awesomeness.

And now I have this new project called The Flipside Podcast.

It’s the show where I ask the hard questions about God, religion, philosophy, faith, doubt, healing, pop-culture, and whatever else is on my mind!–boldly saying in public what many people are thinking in private. No pulling any punches. No sugar-coating. Just straight-up real talk!

What makes this so different from my previous videos/audios is that this time … it’s just me and you.

But I need your help.

Other than being a full-time activist, author and speaker, this podcast is my job. I’d love to focus more of my efforts on this powerful medium. And since I’ve been using the internet for many years for the purpose of spreading knowledge, I also know how expensive it is to produce and distribute quality content. (Up until now, everything I’ve created online has come out of my own pocket.)

Which is why I chose Patreon for my campaign. It makes it easy for you to support at any level you’re comfortable with, without any commitment. You can even change or cancel your donation at any time. In other words, think of it as tip jar where your giving says, “Hey, I appreciate what you’re doing!”

Not only will your support help with the audio podcast, but it’ll also provide for the production of future video content on the Joshua Tongol Youtube Channel.

So if you’re interested in supporting, click here.

If you decide not to give, don’t worry. The show will still be available to you absolutely free. But another way you can help is by leaving a review and rating on iTunes.

To those who have stood by me on this crazy journey … THANK YOU.

And to those who are new to the show … welcome to the conversation.

Much love,
Joshua Tongol

Hey folks,
Are you excited for 2015?

I’m living out my dreams. And thankfully, there’s still more to come!
Now let me ask you a few questions:
Were you able to achieve your goals in 2014?
What are your dreams for 2015?
Do you wake up every day inspired to make your dreams happen?
For those with a religious background, are you at a place in your journey where you’re learning to let go of fear-based religion and need some “spiritual” direction?

Well, whatever your answers are, I wanna let you know that I’m finally making available my personal, one-on-one coaching/spiritual guidance program for 2015 in these areas:
• Personal

16 Oct Santa Barbara – Questions, Challenges, and Being Stretched

Remy and I had an awesome time in Santa Barbara over the past few days. I was able to share and answer questions, spend time with a community, and even do an interview for an online ministry called The Golden Lampstand.

As for my speaking engagement, the audience/community was a pretty mixed group when it came to the people’s theological backgrounds. So, of course, there were different reactions to what I shared. But overall, it was a great experience for me.

On our last night, before Remy and left to go home, one of the guys who heard me speak thanked me and said, “Usually when we have a guest speaker we don’t ever get together [as a community] and talk about it. But after you spoke we did. It stirred something up.” Those words meant a lot to me.

Folks, my heart is for people to discuss important religious doctrines which have definitely affected people’s lives–especially the ones which have seemed to hurt people more than help them. I encourage people to respect others with where they’re at on their journey, but to also be honest with where they’re at as well.

Can we openly share our hearts, questions, and doubts?

Anyway, we appreciate the hours and hours of conversations we had over the past few days–especially the ones when people openly shared their struggles. Thanks for trusting us.

And thanks to Melissa and Ricardo Perez for hosting us. But most of all, we cherish your guys’ friendship. You two are awesome!

Let’s keep the conversations going.

06 Oct Update + Santa Barbara + Forthcoming Book = Here ya go!

For those in the area, Remy and I will be in Santa Barbara October 7-8. We’d love to meet you! Here’s the information below:

The School of Jesus Community House
720 Bath St.

Santa Barbara, CA 93101

6-7:30 (book signing will follow at the end)

On October 7, I’ll be speaking to a class of around 40 students (which is open to the public). I’ll be sharing a bit of my journey and answering questions. (This should be fun!).

On October 8, I’ll be at SBHOP (House of Prayer) being recorded, and answering questions for “The Golden Lampstand,” which is an upcoming magazine and website designed to provide a unifying platform for various pioneering voices.

Oh, and before I forget to mention, the “God Outside the Box” conference in Minnesota was amazing!  For one whole week, we had hours and hours of conversations everyday. We opened up our hearts, encouraged one another, shared our questions/doubts, but loved and accepted one another without any judgement. (For this reason, I decided not to record any of the sessions to respect people’s privacy.)

(LEFT PHOTO: Remy with our beautiful hosts, Sue Beach and Jacqui Grant of “The Wilderness Lodge”)

(RIGHT PHOTO: Some folks who attended. I swear, the dog went in between my legs out of nowhere lol!)

Also, last week we announced on Facebook that we plan on moving overseas possibly next year. Being in the USofA has been such a great experience so far, but we never had any plans of settling here for too long. So if you wanna connect and hook up with us in the following months before we leave, then let us know.

Last but not least, many have been asking if I’ll be writing another book and, well, I just finished the first draft of my second book a few days ago! Yipee!

As for the subject of the book, let’s just say it’s gonna be pretty different than the first one. And let’s also say that you’re gonna have to have a pretty open mind to digest some of the things I say in it as well–that is, if you come from a traditional Christian background. But hey, being stretched is all part of the journey, right?

I’ll be sharing more about the book as it goes through the publishing process. So be on the lookout!

Much love,

Josh and Remy

18 May NEWSLETTER: February – April 2013

Hello everyone!

We’d like to keep the updates of our ministry coming to you since our last video update (click here) . This year was off to a great start since we arrived here in America. We are mindful of the love and support you’ve given that encourages us to keep doing what we’re doing. And we’re so grateful to all of you who have given us that opportunity.

The Gospel is so good that, every time we share it with others, we get so pumped up! So here’s what’s been going on!

NY collage

Starting off in February of 2013, we were invited to Rochester, NY by a group of radicals. Our wonderful hosts were Sean and Joy Briggs. They have a beautiful family. We’re thankful for the community they introduced us to because of all the love they were experiencing with each other. They were so welcoming and open-minded. For several days we were able to dialogue and discuss several topics that are not usually mentioned in church.

If you want to know what was discussed at these gatherings, check out these links:

Is the Bible Inerrant? | Is God Violent?

Why Did Jesus Die? | Romans and Wrath

Identity and Purpose | How to Live in the Present

SANTA CRUZ collage

In March our schedule was set for several events in Northern California. We were hosted by a beautiful couple, Rod and Eileen Williams, who welcomed and loved us like family. It was so refreshing to have spent so many hours with them just sharing about our lives, love, and God.

But before the weekend conference, we had a day to share to the Kainos group held in Rod and Eileen’s home. It was a night that could’ve lasted for hours. Check out the links to hear the things we discussed:

Are You Afraid to QUESTION your religious beliefs?

Who is the Cosmic Christ? | Beyond the Historical Jesus

Is God a Moral Monster? | Making Sense of the Bible

The Glorious Identity Conference followed that weekend and we were so blessed to minister alongside Andre and Mary Anne Rabe. (We make a great tag-team when it comes to doing Q&A’s!) In addition, we also had the opportunity to share and minister at Sausalito Christian Fellowship with Pastor Tamara Cotten. Here are the links to the videos of us sharing controversial (yet very important) subjects:

Are We ALL God’s Children? | The Fatherhood of God

Who Am I? | Identity and Union

What About God’s Wrath and Judgment? | Q&A With Joshua Tongol and Andre Rabe

Does SATAN Exist? | Q&A With Joshua Tongol and Andre Rabe

Next, we were scheduled to share at Abundant Grace Church (Pastor Lewis Yanez) in San Jacinto. We were so privileged to meet and share with this community. They’re so happy in the love of God and their hearts were so ready for what they were going to hear about grace and healing. You can watch the video of the teaching here:

How to Heal Yourself (MUST WATCH!!)

On March 27, we celebrated our 2nd year of marriage. Time goes by so fast! It’s been such an amazing experience to share life with another person. By God’s grace, our love continues to grow.

2nd anniversary

EL PASO collage

In April, we were off to El Paso, Texas! This group was awesome! The ones who coordinated this event encouraged us not to “hold back” our theological views…so we didn’t! For two days straight we talked about everything “under the sun.” It was very liberating and stretching for all of us. Sharing our stories with one another made this trip even more personal. If you want to hear “What you Never HEAR/ASK in Church,” click the links below:

Things You Never HEAR in Church (MUST WATCH!!) – Part 1

Things You Never ASK in Church (MUST WATCH!!) – Part 2 (Q&A)

Next, Josh got interviewed for a podcast called “A Place to Talk” with Josh McDowell. He got to share his personal journey of how he got into apologetics, healing, grace, and organic church life. You can listen to it here:

A Place to Talk Podcast 2013 – A Chat with Joshua Tongol and Josh McDowell

GCI collage

We were then invited to speak at Grace Communion International in Alta Dena, CA. We appreciate this community for allowing us to share our hearts about the grace and love of God. Afterward, we had the opportunity to spend time with some amazing people who came a long way just to hear us.

THE PLACE collage

Lastly, Josh had this wonderful interview at “The Place” live via UStream. He was interviewed by Dr. Michael W. Jones and his lovely wife, Rhonda. He was given the opportunity to share his journey and to answer some very important questions concerning faith and religion that are definitely considered “hot topics” today.  So much was discussed during the show that it’s well worth a listen. It’s a 2-hour interview. So sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and click on the link below to watch it:

Joshua Tongol – “The Place” Interview With Michael and Rhonda Jones

We hope you all get blessed (and challenged) as you listen and watch the links to all our messages. We have received a lot of responses (which were mostly positive) and are encouraged to keep moving forward. The message of God’s unconditional love has been so liberating for us that we just can’t keep silent about it! God is so good! There is so much freedom in knowing the truth about God’s grace. And we’re so glad to be given the opportunity to meet these wonderful communities this first half of the year.

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit shouldn’t be reduced to some sort of doctrine of the Christian faith. Instead, the Trinity takes on a whole new meaning once properly (though not exhaustively) understood and known. Because within this Trinitarian life, there is intimacy and fullness of joy.

The glorious reality is that EVERYONE has been included in the Father, Son, and Spirit relationship. Yes, even the “unbelievers.” That’s why it’s called “good news.” How else would ALL of humanity exist? Nothing (and no one) can exist apart from God. It’s impossible.

Therefore, the Good News should never begin with separation. Rather, the Good News begins with union. Hearing the Gospel opens our eyes to the reality of what has always been  – our union with God. We have been included into the relationship between the Father, Son, and Spirit. And nothing can remove us from this objective union.

The Good News is that God is for us…that He has included us into His life…and that we are unconditionally loved. This is the message we want to take all around the world.

Would you like to partner with us?

If  you’d like to connect and have us come speak at your church, conference or event, please contact us here.

If you’d like to support our ministry financially you may do so here. Know that your financial support goes a long way in helping us with media equipment, travel expenses, and with helping other ministries that are also sharing the same message. Any amount is greatly appreciated.

We’re moving forward.

06 Oct NEWSLETTER june-september 2012

Hello friends,

We really appreciate you for following our ministry and supporting us prayerfully and financially time and time again. All your love has encouraged us to keep spreading the Gospel.

If you’ve read our last newsletter, we’d like to keep you updated quarterly. This quarter we had events that took place from June to September.

On the first week of June, we had a healing training in Laguna that took 10 hours of teaching (including breaks). This particular group that held this gathering never really practiced healing before. That being the case, they were so open to learn. During the teaching, Joshua challenged a lot of the beliefs of healing and addressed every question raised by the listeners. By the end of the day, those who needed healing learned how to heal themselves and each other effectively.

Later on, Joshua was invited to speak at the New Generation Church who were into the radical message of God’s grace. It was the church’s 4th anniversary and they were honored to have Joshua share and have us celebrate with them.

On the first Sunday of July, Joshua had the opportunity to speak at Crossway –a Grace Communion Church in Ortigas. This church has an interesting journey. If you’d know their history, you’d see how far they’ve come. We have this Sunday teaching up on Youtube as a playlist and free to download on iTunes as “The Adoption and Inclusion of Humanity.” And also check out “Real Faith for Health and Finances.”

This church had a fine number of seniors who were so open and enthusiastic. After the service was done, they further discussed what Joshua had shared with them. It was rare to see seniors so open in a fun discussion like this. We were so encouraged.

Because of the teaching, we were invited again to share at another Grace Communion Church in Sta. Rosa. A few people from Crossway followed to listen to Joshua speak again. At the end of the service, many were blessed and spent some time with us elsewhere and discussed more on the topic preached that day. It was a delight to share our hearts with each other.

In August, we had a series of gatherings with different church groups to share the message of grace. A lot of thoughts and questions were exchanged to challenge.  Aside from those gatherings, we also had the opportunity to help with a relief org during the flood that hit the Philippines not too long ago. You can read about it here.

On September, we were invited to share the Gospel in Cebu for 5 days. The gathering we had with our host’s family, friends and church group went on till midnight almost everyday. There was so much to talk about and discuss. On one of the days, our host held a healing training for Joshua to teach. It went on for 6 hours! By the end of the trip, we were so happy to have known our hosts and the wonderful people in Cebu.

Right after Cebu, a church in Makati called Light of The World, invited Joshua to speak on a Thursday and Sunday.  On Thursday, many were “rocked” by the message of grace. This message was so overwhelming for many–yet encouraging. After the service, the leaders sat down with us and brought up the questions they had. On Sunday, Joshua did a healing training that went on for several hours. Many who were present got healed and were also empowered to heal others as well.

During the time between these events, we would meet up with people and simply share life together. We would also be requested to different homes to pray for the sick. It seems as though, whenever we’re out with people, not a day goes by where we don’t share and live the gospel with others.

We also have more good news! We’ll be taking our ministry to the US next month (November 2012). We’ll be based in California.

If you’d like to connect with us and have us come speak at your church, conference or event, please contact us here.
If you’d like to support our ministry financially you may do so here.

Again, thank you for all your love and support.

In Christ,

Josh and Remy

13 Jun Newsletter 2012

January – May 2012

Hello everyone!

We want to thank those of you who have supported us, prayerfully and financially. It really means a lot to us. We’re always thankful to God for you. Now we would like to update you on our ministry with this newsletter every now and then.

We’ll start from last January.

We teamed up with some close friends from the US for a mission’s trip from Manila to Mindanao.

We first visited a hospital in Tondo where we prayed for some babies who were admitted there. No one wants their children sick. Our hearts went out to them as we prayed for their healing.

Love and fun at the House for The Crippled Children

Next, we visited the House for The Crippled Children. Normally, I would expect sad kids but these children were so happy to see us. They were in a school that was surrounded with loving teachers and parents. It was just awesome to be with them. We sang songs with them and ate with them. We gave them pedicures and manicures, haircuts, and even put make-up on the girls. I couldn’t stop smiling. We all were having so much fun together.

Onto Mindanao, Josh was invited to share at our friend’s family gathering. They have a big family that they gather almost every year so that they could share the gospel to them.  They were such great people. And there was so much food!

In February, Josh was invited to speak at Reign in Life Church, a grace filled church. As Josh spoke, the message confirmed what was in their hearts already. It’s so exciting and comforting to find people on the same page.

Preaching the Good News in Reign in Life Church

In May, we were invited to speak at a youth retreat in Batangas held by Blessings in The Word Community. It was out first time to share together as a tag team on love, dating and relationships. Sharing our love story never gets old.

We also had an opportunity to hold healing trainings in several places from Manila to Subic. It’s touching to see people get liberated to heal themselves and others. There’s freedom in knowing our healing and health in Jesus Christ.

Healing training at Blessings in the Word Community. Sharing on love at a Youth retreat. Healing training in the Subic House of Prayer.

Aside from being part of ministry with my husband. I’ve been able to do some TV commercials this past year. (They’re still airing in the Philippines.) During the productions, I was able to share with my co-talents about the grace message, church and the love of God. I get excited to answer whatever questions they throw at me and watch them become enlightened somehow. God just seems so good now! Sharing the good news seems more exciting to me than being shot in front of the camera!

Just to let you know, what we do in between these events, we spend time in reading and studying. Being married to Josh, being with him almost everyday, I can say that he studies a lot! When I say a lot, it’s A LOT! (It makes me look like I don’t study enough haha)  Not only that we also meet up with others for counseling, praying and healing as well. And I’m by his side listening to what he would share and have great reflective conversations about God, love and life.

We’re learning and growing everyday. And with everything we learn, we get excited to share with our organic church community. There’s so much encouragement and love when we share with them the goodness of God.

We live out the Kingdom wherever we are.

We also have more good news! We’ll be taking our ministry to the US very soon. We’ll be based in California. If you’d like to connect with us and have us come speak at your church, conference or event, please contact us here.

Again, thank you for all your love and support.

In Christ,

Josh and Remy
